#45 TMD/TMJ makes a difference in your life
I have written extensively about how the symptoms of TMD/TMJ influence your life. No one likes to experience constant or recurring headaches, earaches, neck pain, ringing in the ears, subjective hearing loss, vertigo, upper back and shoulder pain, arm/hand/finger tingling and numbness and various kinds of jaw locking.
Depending on how often and to what degree these symptoms appear some people report that nothing in their life is enjoyable. I have had mothers report that they feel guilty because they are short and lack patience with their children and are bad mothers. I have documented three cases when patients have reported considering suicide because of years of symptoms without relief with multiple visits to multiple doctors without a diagnosis let alone a solution. These cases are the extreme. However, one of the most common comments we hear and have documented in written testimonials is “Using this device and protocol has given me my life back”. That’s why I can say that TMD/TMJ makes a difference in your life.
But there is another viewpoint and reason to solve the TMD/TMJ conundrum. As I’ve discussed, all of the symptoms noted above are the direct result of inflammation within the temporomandibular joint. Removing the inflammation by unloading the joints with a simple device and protocol makes the symptoms go away. But I have not written about how inflammation within the temporomandibular joints negatively influences or helps to create other problems in the body. Here is a list of other diseases that have been scientifically shown to be influenced by areas of chronic inflammation distant and apart from the disease.
Research has shown that distant areas of chronic inflammation is associated with heart disease, diabetes, cancer, arthritis, and bowel diseases like Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
Chronic inflammation has deleterious effects on the immune system, central nervous system, and the endocrine system. When these systems are out of whack, any number of ailments can develop.
You can see why getting rid of chronic inflammation in the TMJ’s can make a difference in your life by decreasing your chances of developing these systemic problems.
Treating TMD/TMJ is not just matter of relieving the current symptoms, but includes positive effects on your overall health.
If you continue to have one or more of these symptoms without relief consider calling us to rule out TMD/TMJ. We constantly hear, “I had no idea my neck pain, ear ringing, vertigo and shoulder pain was coming from my TMJ”.
