#184 Solving TMD Will Solve 2 Unsolvable Medical Conditions

There are two medical conditions (diseases) that have no solution.  Scientists and researchers admit they don’t know what causes migraine headaches and Meniere’s Disease.  These are two very different diseases with very different symptoms.  The only thing they share is that the symptoms of both are in the head.

Migraine headaches are defined as a chronic neurological condition characterized by recurring episodes of moderate-to-severe headache pain. Unlike a typical headache, migraine is a complex set of symptoms that can debilitate and interfere with daily life.

THE Key Characteristics OF MIGRAINE HEADACES ARE:

  • Intense Pain: The pain is often described as throbbing or pulsing.
  • Unilateral Pain: It typically affects only one side of the head, though it can occur on both sides.
  • Duration: An untreated attack usually lasts between 4 and 72 hours.
  • Aggravation: The pain often worsens with physical activity or simple movements like walking.

Medical doctors, PCP’s, Neurologists, and nurse practitioners/physician assistants staffing convenient care clinics across the country prescribe a hundred different drugs and combination of drugs for migraine headaches which obviously tells you that they really don’t know how to treat Migrain Headaches if they just throw stuff at the wall to see if it sticks.

Meniere’s Disease is a condition believed to be caused by idiopathic endolymphatic hydrops, which is an abnormal buildup of fluid (endolymph) in the inner ear. This excess fluid increases pressure, disrupting the sensory signals sent to the brain regarding sound and movement. “IDEOPATHIC LITERALLY MEANS “WE DONN’T KNOW THE CAUSE.”.

THE Primary Symptoms OF MENIERE’S DISEASE ARE:

]

  • Vertigo: Intense spinning sensations that can last from 20 minutes to 12 hours (and sometimes up to 24 hours).
  • Tinnitus: Ringing, buzzing, roaring, or hissing sounds in the affected ear.
  • Hearing Loss: Fluctuating hearing loss that often affects low-to-medium frequencies first.
  • Aural Fullness: A feeling of pressure, congestion, or “fullness” deep inside the ear

ENT doctors will be the first to tell you they have no successful treatment for Meniere’s Disease.

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD)is a disease caused by inflammation within the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ).  Some of the well established and agreed upon symptoms of TMD are severe recurring headaches which are often unilateral, intense, often lasting days, and aggravated by physical activity, particularly motion of the jaws.  The well known and agreed upon non-painful symptoms of TMD are tinnitus (ringing or bussing in the ears), vertigo, subjective hearing loss, and a feeling that the ears are full of water and a feeling of pressure.

We now know the solution for TMD.  All the symptoms of TMD are caused directly by chronic inflammation within the TMJ.  Chronic inflammation is caused by damage to the joint.  There are three (3) things that damage the TMJ.

  • Clenching and grinding the teeth (Bruxism)
  • Acute trauma to the jaws (ie: auto accidents, falls, athletic injuries)
  • Functional Malocclusions (Bad bites that overload the jaw joints)

Chronic inflammation then sends a signal to the brain announcing it is damaged.  The brain responds by sending a nerve signal to the muscles that move the joint to contract.  This creates pain where the muscles are attached to the bone.  This mechanism known by the orthopedic surgeons for decades is responsible for causing headaches that are undifferenced from migraine headaches.  When you make the inflammation in the TMJ go away by unloading the joint with a device and protocol (Urbanek Device and Protocol) the TMJ/Migraine headaches go away.

The chronic inflammation within the TMJ has access to the middle and inner ear through a fissure in the bone (Petrotympanic Fissure).   There is only 2 millimeters between the TMJ and the middle/inner ear.  When the chronic inflammation within the TMJ goes away using a device that unloads the jaw joint like a set of crutches unloads a damaged knee, the non-painful symptoms of TMD/Meniere’s Disease (tinnitus, vertigo, subjective hearing loss and fullness) goes away.

It’s that simple.  The solution for TMD is also the solution for Migraine headaches and Meniere’s Disease.  The evidence is clear and decisive.  Over 5000 patients treated.  They are the ones that claim their Migraines and Meniere’s Disease are not there anymore. We also have an independent statistical study through Middle Tennessee University and monitored through an Investigational Review Board (IRB) which validates our patients’ statements.
